Job description

Our Buyers are good at what they do, they understand our customer needs and use that understanding to source the products our customers want in our stores or online. Whatever background your experience brings, you will be working and collaborating as a team to make your mark, allowing us to remain the UK’s number Sports retailer.

Keighley Williams – Buying

I started working for SD in February 2006, just after the opening of our flagship store here in Shirebrook, I can honestly say I have loved every minute of it, the people are amazing and continually motivate, inspire and push you to reach your goals. I began by doing the delivery shift each morning, then moving onto tills and then Footwear which enabled me to learn all aspects of working on the shop floor. I initially started with a part time position but was quickly given a full time role, I worked in the store for approximately a year before being offered an admin position within head office as part of the buying team.

During my time within the buying team I have worked my way through the ranks starting with buying administration, moving onto stock control, and I am now Buyer, where I have been given huge responsibilities to look after all aspects of business with one of our key suppliers, whilst continually getting opportunities to progress and encouragement to use my own initiative.

In the future I will continue to develop my knowledge and skillset which I can then pass onto other members of my team to further help towards our targets and maintaining our UK’s number one status.

In the 9 years I have worked here there has never been a dull moment and I would not change it for the world, I have had the chance to experience once in a lifetime opportunities including trips to the Swiss alps, watching the 100 meter final at the 2012 Olympic games and a life changing bonus scheme, if anyone is thinking of joining our team I would say do it…it’s the best decision I have ever made.
